"With retirement coming, being overweight and inactive, I've decided it was time to make some life changes. [Moving also] changes [my] fiscal and mental health [too]." "I think the day that we thought about Bill Meyers going in the water was when nothing else was working for him anyway. And here he was relegated to a wheelchair, could not bear weight, could not feed himself, could not carry on a conversation, not even one word conversations...had no quality of life." "[As a personal trainer], I tell them [clients] you have to look at it like being a kid in the playground, and that’s how I see fitness training. It’s not work to me, it’s fun! (Adult recess is what I tell my clients who hate to work out and look at it as a chore.) If you look at working out or physical activity as work, I know people will be reluctant to do it. Getting started is the hardest part, but once they do, it becomes part of their lifestyle. We break down any glass ceilings they’ve created for themselves and show them the only limitations that are placed are the ones you put on yourself. And if you want to feel healthy, be more fit and enjoy life; you have to take the first step. You can either go forwards or backwards. Which way would you like to step?" "My family has great longevity. My dad lived to age 90, two aunts lived to 90 and 100 years old. I want to be fit in my senior years. I want to enjoy and do things with my 25 nieces and nephews!" "If my body is the temple of God's Spirit; I want to take better care of my body." "Why I move, I move to become the best possible version of myself, physically and socially. Every day presents another opportunity to better myself!" "It's a big, beautiful world out there and I keep moving so I am able to enjoy every second I get to spend in it!!!" "I move for many different reasons, physical and emotional, and my reasons can vary day-by-day, season-by-seaon. Moving is a choice motivated by my value to have a healthy body. I choose to move, because being sedentary is simply not an option." "Why? The [CARE] trial schedule helped me to get out of the house and not be stuck in bed all day, to share the ups and downs of treatment with the wonderful ladies working out beside me at each visit, and to reap the benefits of a regular exercise routine, helping me to feel better than I would have if I hadn’t worked out during treatment. I’m convinced that moving my body during chemo helped get the chemicals through my system faster. Plus, in the end I left the trial with supportive, motivating friends, a routine that I could do at home and the addition of 5000 grams of muscle mass. We really did kick butt!" "If I ever get in a bad mood, I look at my peers with their oxygen bags, put on skates and smile." |
